ParTec Cluster Competence Center delivers the software, consultancy and support services necessary to achieve new heights in productivity and availability on todays commodity based supercomputers. Parastation, an opensource project developed and maintained by ParTec, has unique features specifically designed to address the challenges of scalability and reliability on extremely large clusters. ParTec's unrivaled expertise in delivering professional services, consultancy and support has made it the partner of choice in some of the leading HPC sites across Europe.
In June 2018, the ParaStation Modulo Middleware propelled the 2575 node JUWELS cluster at the Jülich Supercomputer Centre. Hitting 6.18 Petaflops on the Linpack benchmark, the new system is Germany’s highest-performing supercomputer, ranked No 23 on to the June 2018's Top500 list. JUWELS, which stands for Jülich Wizard for European Leadership Science, uses a novel multi-module design that was developed under the EU-funded DEEP series of projects.
JUWELS, built in partnership and co-design among ParTec with the French hardware provider Atos, Israel-based Mellanox, and JSC, is a milestone on the road to a new generation of ultra-flexible modular supercomputers, targeting a broader range of scientific applications. The first module of this novel Modular Supercomputing Architecture has been inaugurated during a ceremony led by state and federal officials, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Anja Karliczek, and Prime Minister of Northrhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet, at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) on September 18, 2018. As guests were welcomed representatives of the involved parters: Bernhard Frohwitter from ParTec, Pierre Barnabé and Jean-Marc Denis from ATOS and representatives of CEA, the French research organisation - Jean Gonnord and Jean-Philippe Nominé.
ParTec understands that in todays economic climate the largest HPC installations have demanding requirements in areas such as power consumption and cooling efficiency. However, effective use of resources demands that equal attention be given to system availability, system utilization and parallel efficiency (scaling). ParTec has developed software, administration tools, maintenance techniques and scheduling policies which maximize machine utilization and give our customers maximum return on their investment.
