ParaStation propells JuRoPA to #10 in Top500 list
ParaStationV5 Cluster Operating and Management Software propelled the JuRoPA cluster at Jülich Supercomputer Centre to an impressive performance of 274,8 Teraflops at an efficiency of 91,6%.
This represents rank No. 10 in the world and rank No. 1 in Europe of most powerful cluster computers.
Inauguration of 1 st European Petaflop Computer in Jülich, Germany
On Tuesday, May 26, the Research Center Jülich reached a significant milestone of German and European supercomputing. Three new super computers have been inaugurated: The Blue Gene based JUGENE computer was upgraded to a Petaflop computer, the supercomputer JUROPA and the fusion machine HPC FF. The symbolic start of all three computers were triggered by the German Federal Minister for Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers, and Prof. Dr. Achim Bachem, Chairman of the Bord of Directors at Research Center Jülich as well as high-ranking international guests from academia, industry and politics.
European Fusion Computer Comes to Jülich
ParTec provides Cluster Management and Operation System to JuRoPA II as well as to additional Fusion Supercomputer HPC-FF.
"We are proud that the European Fusion Development Agreement EFDA has chosen to make use of Jülich's know-how," says Prof. Achim Bachem, Chairman of the Board of Forschungszentrum Jülich. "Jülich will show what Europe can do as a supercomputing site for energy research." The concept for the supercomputer Bull HPC-FF was drawn up by the team headed by Dr. Thomas Lippert, director of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, optimized and implemented together with the partner companies Bull, Intel, Mellanox and ParTec. "HPC-FF will be closely coupled to the Jülich 200-teraflop system, JuRoPA, already purchased in 2008. So, if required fusion researchers can access computing power totalling 300 teraflop/s," says Lippert, the leading scientist.

In parallel to the release of the next TOP500 list during the Supercomputing Conference ( SC08) in Austin, ParTec is proud to announce that it was selected by JSC to deliver the Cluster Management and Operation software ParaStationV5 to orchestrate in the final stage more than 3000 nodes of JuRoPa II Supercomputer project.
ParaStationV5 Cluster Operating and Management Software
To develop the next generation of general purpose cluster computer as a research activity it is necessary to bring together the most experienced companies and research sites to combine and integrate the best processor, server, interconnect and cluster software. Therefore, the companies ParTec and Quadrics will partner together with the Forschungszentrum Jülich to establish a cluster architecture based on Intel technology, Quadrics interconnect and ParaStationV5 cluster operating and management software.

"Intel Cluster Ready" is a certification process to ensure hardware and software operate seamlessly on Intel based platforms. This means the customer will be assured the "Intel Cluster Ready Software" will run flawlessly on the "Intel Cluster Ready Hardware" of their preferred suppliers.
